PORT Adelaide recruit Dom Barry is fast making an impression at his new club, helping establish a new order in the Power’s running ranks.

Barry, who was picked up at No 61 in the national draft after a fine year at Glenelg in the SANFL following an ill-fated stint at Melbourne, finished second in the Power’s 3 x 1km time trial at Alberton on Wednesday.

Barry, 23, trailed only renowned Power runner Karl Amon, 22, as the players were put through their paces following their return to the track on Monday after a two-week Christmas break.

Wingman Amon backed up after taking out the Power’s first 2km time trial of the preseason in December, taking over the club’s running machine title that was for so long owned by Kane Cornes.

Another Power newcomer, Jack Trengove, also showed off his running pedigree.

The former Melbourne captain and brother of Australian marathon runner Jess Trengove finished fourth behind Power skipper Travis Boak.

Defender Tom Clurey rounded out the top five.

On Monday, North Melbourne recruit Sam Gibson showed off his potential worth to new club Adelaide by winning the 2km time trial at the SA Athletics Stadium.

The oldest player on the Crows list at 31 repeated his December effort to beat home defender Jake Kelly, Riley Knight and the Rorys Atkins and Laird.
