ADELAIDE star Tom Lynch says he believes Andrew Gaff’s apology for striking Andrew Brayshaw is sincere but the eight-week ban is about right.
West Coast’s star midfielder gave an emotional public apology on Tuesday night after the AFL tribunal handed him the equal-longest suspension in 10 years for breaking the young Docker Brayshaw’s jaw.
“In this day and age he (Gaff) was crucified a bit in the social media world and landscape that we’re in now, I think he was hung out to dry a little bit,” Lynch said on Mix 102.3 on Wednesday morning.
“And thoughts are with Andrew Brayshaw, you never like to see that happen, and the way he (Gaff) spoke last night about being remorseful and sorry I thought he spoke really well.
“Knowing Andrew Gaff he wouldn’t have intentionally ever have done that in his life.
“It (suspension) was probably fair, I think it has to be a similar penalty to the length of time the other player is going to be out for.
With the Crows coming off a spirited Showdown win over the Power on the weekend, Lynch admitted he had “no idea” whether teammate and friend Josh Jenkins’ controversial goal in the final quarter was all-clear.
“I was running over the 50m calling for a 45m handball so I could kick the winner,” Lynch said.
“But I was a bit annoyed he was saying it (that he thought he missed), he was unsure, mate just celebrate.
“Good honesty from him but just celebrate, it was your moment.”
