ADELAIDE assistant coach Tate Kaesler says the AFL should investigate light-up goalposts to solve its score review controversy.

While the Crows were on the right side of forward Josh Jenkins’ questionable goal which won Showdown 45 at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, Kaesler said “we don’t want to see games won and lost in circumstances like that’’.

Jenkins courageously admitted he thought his snap shot that gave Adelaide the lead with 2:38 left had clipped the left goalpost before the score review system confirmed the goal umpire's decision of a goal.

The AFL stood by the call, saying that after reviewing all relevant angles for 23 seconds there was no clear evidence to overturn it.

But Kaesler said the current system was flawed and could be done better.

“It's an interesting question and the people that be (at the AFL) will continue to look at that but I’ve always thought that if you can have light-up goalposts that flash if the ball hits the post it might be a bit clearer,’’ told FIVEaa.

“It would be like the zing bails (in cricket) that work pretty well. There’s always going to be discrepancies no matter what sort of rules there are in terms of getting the right outcome.

“But the competition wants the best outcome and the right outcome every time, so I’m sure that’s what the AFL are looking to do.

“We have to make sure we get the (best) result.’’

Zing flashing bails and stumps work through an innovative-patented sensor system in each end of the bail that flashes coloured lights the millisecond the bail lifts from the stumps.

Port Adelaide assistant coach Brendon Lade refused to blame the score review controversy for his side’s damaging three-point loss that could cost it a coveted top-four spot.

But he said the system could be improved and agreed with Kaesler that football should turn to cricket for answers.

“You look at cricket and it has hotspot and all that kind of stuff so the technology is out there to use,’’ Lade said.

“It was a disappointing way to end a great game.’’

Kaesler said the nailbiting win that gave Adelaide a 23-22 advantage in Showdowns had kept its slim finals hopes alive.

“We’ve got no wriggle room, have to win every game and unfortunately rely on a couple of results going our way but internally we are focusing on what we can control and that is winning as many games in our last three as we can to give ourselves an opportunity,’’ he said.

“The Showdown was a great stepping stone, we are playing our best footy at the right time of the year and hopefully we can sneak into the eight and give the finals a real crack.’’

The Crows expect key defender Daniel Talia, who left the field late against the Power with a corked calf, to be available for Saturday night’s clash against GWS in Canberra.
