South Australia is expected to make two changes as it looks to break its lengthy Sheffield Shield losing streak against Tasmania at Adelaide Oval on Monday.
Jake Lehmann – who was relegated to 12th man for the match against New South Wales last week, despite coming off an unbeaten double century in grade cricket – will replace Travis Head as skipper, with the left-handed batsman unavailable due to Australia A duty.
Quick Joe Mennie will also make a surprise return from hamstring injury to bolster SA’s fast-bowling stocks alongside in-form swing king Chadd Sayers, who returned the remarkable match figures of 13/131 against the Blues.
It will likely mean either Luke Robins or Wes Agar will be left to carry the drinks.
SA has gone 16 matches without victory, and a loss to would emulate a 17-game winless streak under Phil Ridings between February 1949 and February 1951 – the sixth longest in Sheffield Shield history.
One of the biggest threats to the Redbacks’ chances of victory includes Test incumbent Matthew Wade, who has been one of the competition’s dominant batsmen for the past two seasons and is coming off 69 and 57-run knocks – the latter unbeaten – against Victoria.
The match between SA and Tasmania will start on November 11.
