South Australian swing bowler Megan Schutt has rewritten cricket’s history books, becoming the only female in the world to take two international hat-tricks.
The 26-year-old achieved the feat this morning with a stunning triple-wicket haul against the West Indies, as Australia beat the home-side by eight wickets in their third and final one-day international in the Caribbean.
In hot and humid Antigua, as Schutt clinically cleaned up the Windies’ tailenders with three wickets from the final three balls of the innings, she also became the first Australian woman to take an ODI hat-trick.
She now has taken hat-tricks in both ODI and T20I formats, after her first came against India in a T20 game in March, 2018.

Known as “Schutter” on the cricket field, she finished the match with figures of 3/24 from 10 overs, for an economy of 2.40.
Her hat-trick started when she clean-bowled Chinelle Henry (39 runs from 58 balls), then had Karishma Ramharack caught in the outfield for a duck and cleaned up the tail by bowling Afy Fletcher, who’d hit three runs from 11 balls.
Speaking to cricket.com.au after the game, Schutt said: “It was good to actually take it all in the one over.
“It’s kind of luck of the draw, it was the last over of the innings so you’re either getting hit for six or getting wickets.
“I just hoped for the best really, I know my back-of-the-hand slower ball is effective on wickets that turn a bit so I just looked to take as much pace off as I could.”
After two previous convincing wins, Australia went into the third ODI full of confidence. And the side continued their emphatic form. This morning they bowled the Windies out for 180 and the green and gold reached the target in the 31st over thanks largely to a speedy 61 (32 balls) from opening batter Alyssa Healy and an unbeaten 58 (70) from captain Meg Lanning.
Lanning's’ half-century was also record-breaking, as she surpassed SA’s Karen Rolton to become Australia’s greatest female run scorer of all time, now with 6222 runs across all formats.
After the clean sweep of the three ODIs, next up, Australia plays the Windies in three T20s in Barbados starting on September 14 before the team returns home and prepares for the Women’s Big Bash League competition that starts on October 19.
Schutt, who grew up in Adelaide’s Hackham West, is the only South Australian member of the Australian Women’s Cricket team and is captain of the state team, the SA Scorpions.
She is the ICC’s No. 1 ranked bowler in the world in both T20I and ODI formats.
