Having swept New South Wales aside, Kane Richardson will put the foot down against Tasmania as the speedster targets a national one-day recall.
South Australian spearhead Richardson’s 3/25 and a second successive half-century from Tom Cooper set up a five-wicket bonus-point win against the Blues in Brisbane.
Cooper’s unbeaten 52 eased SA (5/177) to its 174 target in 39 overs at Allan Border Oval. Cam Valente remained nine not out.
Richardson noted he was ‘mixing a lot of hydrolyte’ at the 2019 World Cup in England. Five wickets at 21 in his two outings against Pakistan and Sri Lanka whet Richardson’s appetite for a front-line Australian role this summer.

“I enjoyed the hell out of it. You get back, get ready and want to go again, just have that hunger to keep getting better,” said Richardson.
The Redbacks enter their first home one-day games in six years with a 1-1 win-loss Marsh Cup record and in third spot. Jake Lehmann’s side dropped Tuesday’s opening clash against unbeaten Queensland but hit back in convincing style.
The Blues couldn’t recover from a 5-27 start where Peter Nevill (40) was the only member of their top six to exceed 10 before run out by crack fielder Alex Ross.
Former Test keeper Nevill featured in the Blues’ only meaningful stand, 64, with all-rounder Daniel Sams (30) before some belated aggression from Sean Abbott (26, 24 balls).
Seamer Joe Mennie (3/39) knocked over openers Daniel Hughes (7), Jack Edwards (0) and former Test batsman Kurtis Patterson (9).

Man of the match Richardson delivered the key scalp of former Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques while steepling bounce and late swing troubled the Blues left-handers including Nick Bertus (5).
“We saw that in the Ashes with Stuart Broad going around the wicket to left-handers, it is quite tough to play. That natural swing away they have to play more than they don’t,” Richardson told Fox Cricket.
“Once the ball gets a bit older you bash it in as well. It was one of those days it came off. I thought Joe could easily be (man of the match) as well with three blokes out early. He bowled beautifully so it was a really good day.”
Debutant leg-spinner Lloyd Pope (1/48) chipped in with his maiden one-day wicket, tail-ender Mickey Edwards.
Australian keeper-batsman Alex Carey’s (36, 35) strokeplay was a class above with six boundaries before chasing a wide Mickey Edwards delivery. Cooper followed his 62 against the Bulls with another calculated innings. Stand-in captain Lehmann (37) was frustrated not to steer SA to victory.
SA regains skipper and Test batsman Travis Head for Sunday’s clash against winless Tasmania at Karen Rolton Oval. Carey will continue as Callum Ferguson’s opening partner unless Jake Weatherald overcomes a thigh strain.
