A SECOND century for the season from Kensington captain and opener Jake Brown helped set up his side’s thrilling one-run win against Adelaide University in their Premier Cricket game at Park 12 No 1.

Uni, needing eight runs for victory in the last over, finished on 7/222 in reply to the Browns’ 8/223 in a game of fluctuating fortunes.

Brown made 102 from 151 balls to add to his 113 and 83 in the first two rounds. Sam Kerber (65), Kyle Brazell (60) and Ben Wakim (49) worked hard to keep their side in the game.

Centuries from opener Matthew Nobes (100) and Sam Raphael (109) proved the driving force behind Adelaide’s victory against Northern Districts at Glandore Oval.

The duo put on 114 for the third wicket and with Ben Pengelley (52) pushed the team score to 8/320 from its 50 overs. In reply the Jets made 8/286dec with opener Tim Rouse continuing his top start to the season with 79. Coach Mark Cosgrove made 45.

Adelaide coach Shaun Seigert said the side worked hard in the field to win.

“You don’t usually lose when you have two players make 100s but Glandore can be a tough ground to defend scores on if the batsmen get set,” Seigert said.

“After a good start we were able to build on that momentum.”

Sturt finished on 2/135 in the 18th over with opener Jacob Dick unbeaten on 65. Fellow opener Connor Dudley combined with Dick for an opening stand of 68. Reigning premier Tea Tree Gully produced a stirring effort with the ball to hold out West Torrens at Henley Grange Memorial Oval. Defending 9/225, on the back of opener Matthew Weaver’s 101, the Bulls ripped through the Eagles late to see them fall from 2/205 to 9/216. Skipper Kelvin Smith (86) and Daniel Drew (95) looked to have the Eagles nearly over the line with a third-wicket stand of 172 before the collapse.
