Redbacks blown away by Queensland double act Chris Lynn and Billy Stanlake

THE Redbacks were consumed by big Billy Stanlake’s thunderbolts and a Chris Lynn masterclass with Tom Cooper’s ton SA’s only highlight.

SOUTH Australia knew it was coming but succumbed to “Lynnsanity” as Chris Lynn blazed an irresistible, maiden one-day ton and Queensland to victory in Sydney on Tuesday.

The Redbacks were blown away by Billy Stanlake’s (3/36) 150km/h thunderbolts then Lynn’s power-hitting in Queensland’s seven-wicket, bonus-point win.

Suburban Hurstville Oval, with 50 metre square boundaries, was never big enough for unconquered Lynn (106, 71 balls) who crashed six sixes as the Bulls chewed up a 281 target in 35.3 overs.

Lynn’s quest for a 2019 World Cup berth is gathering steam having recovered from shoulder surgery and fresh from a half-century (70) against Tasmania in Townsville.

Max Bryant announced himself with 71 in 32 balls, bossing the experienced Redbacks attack in a 106-run opening stand with Sam Heazlett (80).

South Australia’s top-order was rock and rolled by match-of-the match Stanlake. Tom Cooper’s career-best, one-day century (139, 134) ensured a solid, though uncompetitive total.

“I don’t know if was the best I have batted but a career-best score,” said Cooper with SA targeting atonement against Tasmania on Thursday at Bankstown.

“I probably left a few runs out there getting out when I did. It was nice to get a respectable score and one that I thought would be reasonably competitive. The way they batted it didn’t eventuate that way.”

Seamer Xavier Bartlett (3/43) continually checked the Redbacks, accepting a return chance from skipper Jake Lehmann (6) before ending Cooper’s mission in the 47th over.

Stanlake — a key plank in Adelaide Strikers inaugural 2017-18 BBL title — claimed

opener Jake Weatherald (4) and former Australian batsman Callum Ferguson (2).

Stanlake returned to knock over noted finisher Alex Ross (9) leaving Adam Zampa (32) to support Cooper in a 64-run, eighth-wicket stand stopped by Mark Steketee (1/51).

Alex Carey (42, 40) followed his half-century against Western Australia in Perth on Saturday with a fluent cameo.

Axed Australian one-day leg-spinner Zampa (3/58) was the only Redback to trouble the Bulls batsmen.

Zampa’s revamped action, resulting in more pace and fizz through the air with appreciable turn is paying dividends as he targets a World Cup slot.

“The ball is coming out beautifully. For a spinner to finish 3/58 on this ground is exceptional especially at the rate they were going,” said Cooper of Zampa.
