Michael Clarke’s divorce from wife Kyly doesn’t delay entry in to world of Sydney breakfast radio

Former Test captain Michael Clarke, who has disclosed his imminent divorce from wife of seven years Kyly, has been formally announced as co-host on the Big Sports Breakfast show, alongside rugby league great Laurie Daley.

Michael Clarke hopes his foray into breakfast radio can allow “the Australian public to get to know me better”.

Clarke will be the new co-host of the Big Sports Breakfast alongside rugby league great Laurie Daley.

As revealed by The Daily Telegraph last week, Clarke will replace long-term host Terry Kennedy and bid to lift the station’s ratings up against breakfast superpower rivals Alan Jones and Kyle and Jackie O.

Clarke will divorce wife Kyly after seven years of marriage, reportedly after several months of living separately.

Sky Sports on Thursday confirmed the boom signing of the former Australian Test cricket captain, with the news about his marriage not holding up the finalisation of the process.

“It’s a show that I have always listened to growing up,” Clarke said.

“My father listens every morning. I always stayed across it during my playing days, and I love the fact I have the opportunity to talk about all racing and sports, not just cricket.

“I think the consistency of being on radio Monday to Friday allows the Australian public to get to know me better and the chance to work beside a childhood hero like Laurie Daley, how can you not look forward to that.”

Clarke will take on an ambassador role with Tabcorp on top of his Big Sports Breakfast gig.

It will be Clarke’s return to the Australian media landscape after being absent from the airways since Channel 9 lost the cricket TV rights two summers ago.

Clarke was due to play in last weekend’s Bushfire appeal legends cricket match, but was forced to withdrawal when organisers changed the date as it clashed with a prior commitment.

The Big Sports Breakfast made improvement in the ratings last year, beating their now defunct rivals Macquarie Sports Radio, and it’s hoped Clarke can continue the growth.

The Big Sports Breakfast airs weekdays from 5.30am to 9am.

The new-look team will be on show at the annual Big Sports Breakfast lunch at Luna Park on Friday, February 28.
