JOSH Hazlewood and Pat Cummins will make their long-awaited returns from injury in a public holiday blockbuster against Chris Lynn’s Queensland Bulls.
The international spearheads made solid comebacks in grade cricket on Saturday and are both booked in to try to navigate NSW to the one-day cup title in a week’s time.
Ruled out of Australia’s tour against Pakistan because of back injuries, the pair will actually be back on the field before the first Test starts in Dubai on October 7.
Hazlewood and Cummins will be injected just in time for a ding-dong clash at Drummoyne Oval on October 1 against batting phenomenon Lynn, who is fresh from smashing 70 against Tasmania.
The next fixture after that is the one-day cup finals series, which bizarrely, every team will contest regardless of where they finish on the ladder.
Lynn is trying to cement his own place as Australia’s No.3 in ODI cricket, with the 50-over series against South Africa in November also pinpointed as when Hazlewood and Cummins will return to the international scene.
Hazlewood didn’t have a great deal of luck against a rampaging David Warner in grade cricket on Saturday, but feels his body is ready to go.
“I’m playing next Monday on October 1st. It was a good hit-out (against Warner),” he said after taking 1-30 from eight overs for St George against Randwick-Petersham at Coogee Oval.
“It’s a long time on the legs. Fielding is one thing you can’t replicate in training, so it was good to get out there.
“It was a close and exciting game and to field 50 overs and bowl eight, I was happy with that.
“It (felt) pretty good actually. I’ve been bowling a lot in the nets, a couple of times a week, and it’s obviously different out in the middle.
“I feel like I went pretty well. I hit my length nicely and I felt like there was a bit of pace there on occasion.
“I guess it’s just about getting back into the NSW stuff now and moving on from there.”
