South Australian cricket cast aside a disappointing summer as Jake Lehmann scooped an inaugural Neil Dansie honour on Friday night at Adelaide Oval.
Lehmann, 26, received 112 votes from teammates across the JLT one-day and Sheffield Shield competitions ahead of dual winner Joe Mennie (106) and Jake Weatherald (104).
Lehmann this season emulated father Darren - South Australia’s all-time leading Shield (11,622) and one-day (3963) run-scorer – captaining in Travis Head’s absence.
Left-hander Lehmann led by example through the one-day competition making 259 runs at 51.
Lehmann started the Shield season in style with a ton (126) against Queensland in Adelaide before finishing with 572 runs at 31.7.
Lehmann averaged 44.5 in 2015-16 and 40.1 in 2016-17 when prolific pacemen Mennie and Chadd Sayers won Dansie medals.
Adam Zampa’s impressive limited overs campaign was acknowledged with teammates voting the leg-spinner SA’s one-day player of the year. Zampa set the platform for a successful Australian one-day recall with 12 wickets at 25.4.
Test batsman Head won the Lord Hampden trophy for the highest Shield aggregate with 483 runs at 37 across seven matches. Former Test seamer Mennie collected the first-class bowling award in a canter taking 37 wickets at 19.59.
Star internationals Rashid Khan and Sophie Devine were bright lights winning back-to-back Strikers MVP awards in a season where the Redbacks and Scorpions finished bottom in the Shield and WNCL.
The world’s No.1 ranked T20 bowler Rashid took 19 wickets at 18.1 despite rival batsman sitting off the leg-spinner as the Strikers failed to defend their BBL title.
New Zealand allrounder Devine was the runaway Strikers women MVP belting a record 556 runs at 46.3 and 136.6 strikerate. Adelaide relied equally on Devine with the ball, taking 14 wickets at 21.71.
Tahlia McGrath’s consistency was rewarded with the Andrew McCauley trophy. Scorpions allrounder McGrath posted a maiden century (106) against Victoria in September.
Speedster Kane Richardson received a special mention for a competition high 24 wickets at 17.7 in Melbourne Renegades’ championship triumph.
