Curious footage of Adam Zampa reaching for an item inside his pocket while holding the ball has been swiftly dismissed by Cricket Australia as anything untoward.

A Twitter post of the clip, which was captioned “Whats in the pocket Zampa??? Are Australia upto old tricks again?” (sic) went viral during the clash against India, and was viewed more than 140,000 times.

Screenshots of Zampa also quickly spread on social media. A member of the Indian media raised the suggestions with Australian captain Aaron Finch, who emphatically shot it down.

“I haven’t seen the photos, but I know that (Zampa) has hand warmers in his pocket,” Finch said.

“He has them every single game he plays. I know for a fact that he has hand warmers every game.”

Finch said Zampa started his spell “poorly” against India, which was why he only sent down six overs (0/50).

It was the equal-fewest amount of overs Zampa has bowled in more than two years although the legspinner’s wicket-taking ability in the middle overs remains crucial to Australia’s success.
