Glenn Maxwell pulls out of IPL auction ending stunning 14-year career
Glenn Maxwell has decided against entering this year's IPL auction, potentially ending his 14-year career with the world's richest cricket league.
Glenn Maxwell’s 14-year Indian Premier League career may be over with the superstar all-rounder deciding not to enter this year’s player auction.
Maxwell, 37, released a statement on Tuesday confirming his call.
“After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me,” he said.
“The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched. The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me forever.
“Thank you for all your support over the years, hopefully see you soon. Cheers Maxi.”
Maxwell was not retained by Ricky Ponting’s Punjab Kings last month.
He played for four clubs across his time in the IPL, spending his longest stints with Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kings.
It’s understood he is unlikely to opt for the rival Pakistan Super League that overlaps with the IPL.
He continues to play in the Big Bash League for the Melbourne Stars.
Earlier this year, he retired from one-day international cricket, but continues to play Twenty20 cricket for Australia and shapes as an important member of the national side’s push for another T20 World Cup title early next year.
