It may not have been the WBBL04 campaign they hoped for, but there’s no tearing apart this team, says singing Strikers spinner Alex Price
They started WBBL04 with the aim of making finals, but things haven’t gone to plan for Adelaide Strikers. However, offspinner Alex Price says there’s one positive to take from this season.
Big Bash
Don't miss out on the headlines from Big Bash. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Finals might be off the agenda, but there’s pride. And each other. Still plenty to play for.
Despite Adelaide Strikers’ dismal 2-7 WBBL win-loss record so far, when they take to Karen Rolton Oval on Tuesday against Hobart, they’ll be looking to improve that ledger.
Offspinner Alex Price said while this may not have been the side’s dream WBBL04 season, they’d still managed to have fun along the way.
Price said the big positive to take away from WBBL04 was that the team all still really liked each other.

Pricey's teammates set her a secret challenge on the weekend... #BlueEnergy #WBBL04 pic.twitter.com/9RkcP0Txl0
“We have lots of fun and cricket is never too dull,” Price said. “Sophie Devine is crazy — she’s just got a lot of energy and is a really bubbly person.
“Then Suzie Bates who is just a big ball of positive energy and Megan Schutt is more mischievous, she likes to play pranks and be annoying, she’s the cheeky one in the group.
“We have a nice balance of personalities in the team which makes it easier to get through a not-so-good time.”
Price, 23, has been making a name for herself this season thanks to her habit of singing in the outfield, which led to Ch 7 asking her to be the mic’d player during broadcast games.
She’s had commentators in stitches thanks to her awful singing voice. A clip of her singing (badly) Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You has been watched thousands of times online.
“I love Whitney,” Price said. “I also love Frank Sinatra and a bit of Johnny Cash and Amy Winehouse is my favourite.
“I sing their songs anywhere … in the car, in the shower, on the cricket field, in Suzie’s ear. I do love Suzie … I tend to annoy her quite a lot, but she’s quite a patient thing.”
Price said Kiwi import Devine was a bit of an instigator around the group.
One of Devine’s ideas was the “three-word challenge” where the squad gave Price words she had to say live on air while on-field commentating. She’s been able to slip “tinkle”, “jingle bells”, even “dodecahedron” onto live television.

Then there’s the “headband challenge” where Devine donated money to charity if members of other teams wore a headband while playing.
Price said if you asked half her teammates they would call her “annoying”.
“But if you asked the other half of them, they’d probably say loud, bubbly, most of the time chilled out and sometimes not. And talkative, sometimes it would be hard to shut me up.”
Strikers v Hurricanes, today, 1.40pm, Karen Rolton Oval. Entry is free.
