Sydney Thunder paceman Daniel Sams has broken the all-time record for most wickets in a Big Bash season.
Sams removed struggling batsman Ashton Turner for one at Sydney Showground during the rain-affected BBL match against the Perth Scorchers.
Turner chipped a simple catch to English import Alex Hales at mid off, and made his way off the ground for yet another single figure score.

It was the left-armer’s 25th wicket of the tournament, eclipsing the previous record set by Australian bowler Kane Richardson last season.

The 27-year-old has only played five first-class matches, but is proving a valuable weapon in the short formats.
However, Sams’ record is already under threat — with 22 wickets this tournament, Sixers all rounder Tom Curran could overtake Sams during the knockout finals.
While the Golden Arm holder has been superb with ball in hand, his batting in BBL09 could only be described as horrific. Sams has only managed 35 runs in 12 innings, averaging 3.50 with the bat, including four ducks.
The Scorchers were 4/99 when rain rolled into Sydney, stopping play. Former Australian opening batsman Cameron Bancroft was 35 not out when the weather intervened.
The Duckworth-Lewis method set the hosts a revised target of 96 runs from 12 overs to win.
Another classy innings from Hales put the Thunder in a dominant position, his 47 from 27 balls including six boundaries.
At one stage, the Thunder only needed 31 runs from 30 balls with ten wickets in hands, and somehow found a way to put themselves in a losing position.
After a few wickets collapsed, 12 runs were needed form the last over for victory. Thankfully for the hosts, South African all rounder Chris Morris struck a six and a four to secure the unconvincing victory after Chris Morris scored three off the first two ball.
The Thunder slide up to fourth on the BBL ladder, and will be sweating on the last two regular season fixtures to find out whether they qualify for the revamped finals.
