The Hobart franchise were cruising at 1-61 in the seventh over when Wade slapped a Mitch Perry delivery in the direction of Edwards at backward point.
The ball initially seemed to be streaking towards the boundary, before Edwards flew to his right to reel in a catch that stunned commentators and even Wade, who was forced to depart.
“What a catch, catch of the summer. Jack Edwards has stunned the crowd, it will stun everyone around the world when they see that,” Mark Howard said on Fox Cricket.
“That is an unbelievable grab from Jack Edwards, went like an absolute bullet and he plucked it out of the air.”
Mark Waugh said: “That is the catch of the season, wow. That is an absolute beauty, that is a wicket out of nowhere.”
While Adam Gilchrist couldn’t believe his eyes, gasping in awe before adding: “How can something so big just float so effortlessly off the ground?... That is just remarkable, a sight to behold.”
The ridiculous effort even left Edwards’ teammate Kurtis Patterson scratching his head.
“He caught it clean as a whistle and as easy as you like didn’t he, he’s a bloody good fielder, he’s got huge buckets for hands,” Kurtis Patterson said on field.
While Edwards’ effort was staggering, it’s not the first time a screamer has been taken at backward point off the bowling of Perry.
In his very first BBL over, way back in 2021, the rising seamer dismissed Thunder star Alex Hales, with Mackenzie Harvey delivering an eerily similar catch.
“Oh what a catch, Harvey dives and Perry gets his first wicket... the young bloke can’t believe it,” Howard said at the time.
