Pat Cummins’ baggy green cap is missing.
On the eve of the first Test between the West Indies and Australia in Barbados, Australian captain Cummins rocked up to a pre-series photo shoot with the Frank Worrell Trophy sporting a new baggy green.
Unlike several teammates who had sought to have their fraying peaks repaired, Cummins opted to pursue a new baggy green and had been due to wear it against the Windies at Kensington Oval.
It was one of if not the last remaining baggy green caps made by manufacturer Albion, who lost the rights to produce the iconic caps when Kookaburra took over in 2016.
However by the time Cummins reconvened with Windies skipper Roston Chase at the toss the following day, he was sporting his old cap - worn since his debut in South Africa in 2011 - with white material visible underneath the torn green exterior.
This had not been a late change of heart. Rather, sometime between the photo shoot and the toss, the cap was lost, and it hasn’t been found since.
The case of Cummins’ missing cap follows that of David Warner, who issued a public plea to find his baggy green when it went missing shortly before his final Test against Pakistan in Sydney last year, only to be discovered subsequently.
