Levi Ashcroft is fast-becoming a clear-cut candidate for the first overall selection at the end of the season, with the Sandringham Dragons prospect enjoying another dominant weekend of football.
The Brisbane father-son option collected 31 disposals, including 16 contested possessions, as well as six marks, six clearances, 11 score involvements and a goal in the Dragons’ 19-point win over Eastern Ranges.
Ashcroft finished on 154 ranking points for the round and was only surpassed by Dandenong Stingrays’ midfielder Cooper Hynes, who scored 193 ranking points for his 32 disposals, eight marks, seven tackles, six clearances, 18 score involvements and goal in the win over GWV Rebels.
Geelong Falcons midfielder Xavier Ivisic backed up a huge round two effort with an even stronger performance at the weekend, with 29 disposals, five marks, five clearances, four tackles, nine score involvements and a goal for 175 ranking points.
He had plenty of help from his teammates, with Will McLachlan (12 disposals, six goals for 152 points) and Joe Pike (16 disposals, four clearances, one goal for 143 points) helping the Falcons to top spot on the ladder.
Calder Cannons were led by forward Isaac Kako, who had 24 disposals, 10 score involvements and two goals for his 144 ranking points, while skipper Damon Hollow had 27 touches, seven clearances and nine score involvements for 142 points.
The Cannons beat the Northern Knights by five goals to move to two wins from three games.
Oakleigh Chargers also secured a close nine-point win over the Tassie Devils, with Tom Gross (25 disposals, seven marks, one goal for 137 points) and Jagga Smith (28 disposals, 12 clearances, eight score involvements for 128 points) leading the way.
Gross is now the leading ranking points scorer in the Coates Talent League, averaging 159 points per contest this season.
Top-five draft hopefuls Josh Smillie (28 disposals, one goal for 114 points) and Christian Moraes (21 disposals, three goals for 109 points) also had good performances.
