The Knights join Brothers Cairns, Brothers Innisfail and Tully Tigers as the clubs intending to play rugby league in 2020, despite the cancellation of the CDRL season.

Last week, all 11 CDRL clubs agreed it was not feasible to deliver a typical season within the guidelines, which would allow no more than 100 people at a sporting ground at any one time from July 10.

But, some clubs are willing push forward with the possibility of a series to be run later in the year.

“We’d definitely be interested in looking at something like that,” said Ivanhoe president Noel Slade.

“We’re in the same boat as all the other clubs, but as soon as we can get more than 100 people in the gate and restrictions are eased, we would definitely want to be part of it and would happily jump in.

“If everything goes according to plan and things ease a little bit quicker, like we hope they will, I think we’re a good chance to get something happening, but it all depends on the restrictions coming into play.”

At Thursday night’s CDRL meeting, the plan was put before the league’s executive committee, who were not opposed to the idea.

While some clubs are holding out hope for league to make a comeback this year, not all clubs are keen to be involved, with others preferring to put a line through 2020 and start looking towards 2021.
