Saints midfielder Liv McArthur hopes the sacrifices she’s made and the hard work she’s put in throughout the season will be rewarded with a pair of premierships this weekend.
McArthur will line up for Saints in Friday night’s A-grade women’s decider against Souths, before backing up in the U18A women’s grand final against Brothers on Saturday.
Both games will be livestreamed on the Cairns Post website.
The 17-year-old, who is in her final year of schooling at St Monica’s College, said it had been a challenging year but hoped it would all be worth it after this weekend.
“It’s been difficult to manage a lot of my school and my hockey,” she said.
“It’s been really tough and I’ve had to make a few big decisions.
“I’m hoping that it all works out this weekend.
“With COVID, it’s kind of convenient that the season is ending soon because I can focus on my studies, as this is an important time of the year for my exams.”
McArthur was part of the Saints side that won the A-grade women’s title in 2018, with a 1-0 win over Souths.

She said they would be looking for a repeat of the result on Friday night.
“It’s a bit nerve-racking but we beat them once during the season, so we have confidence we can do it again,” she said.
“We’ve been playing really well the past few weeks so we’re just looking to build on that for this week.”
She was expecting a competitive contest.
“We both play a similar style of hockey and it’s always an enjoyable game against them,” she said.
“They have some key players that we’ll need to look out for and they’re very strong in attack so we’ll have to make sure our defence is solid.”
McArthur will form a dangerous midfield line with Talytha Macdonald and Hannah Sealby.
“We’ve been working on linking up in the midfield to set up attacking plays,” she said.
“Hopefully I can make a big impact on the game, set up a few plays and dominate my opposite player.”
