A fourth successive ABL title is within reach of the Brisbane Bandits ahead of the start of their latest playoff campaign tonight against Canberra Cavalry.
The Bandits also host the Cavalry tomorrow and Sunday at OneHub Stadium as part of a three-game series, with the winner to meet either Perth Heat or Sydney Blue Sox in the grand final series starting on Friday week.
Brisbane topped of the North-East Division standings with a record of 25 wins and 15 losses, compared to Canberra’s 23-17 regular season record.
Although the Bandits have had an eventful season, including pitcher Loek van Mil sustaining serious head injuries in a bushwalking accident in Canberra – head coach David Nilsson said the team, including van Mil, were as determined as ever to take another step on the road to a fourth straight crown.
“We’re pretty confident, we’ve had a lot of success around us the last few years and we’re feeling really sure in our abilities,” Nilsson said.
“We played a four-game series against them (Canberra) last time and we won two and they won two.
“They’re a great team and we know we can’t win every game, but we do have the home field advantage.”
Perth, who finished top of the South-West standings, host Sydney tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.
“They’re both very good teams Perth and Sydney… if there is any advantage it’ll have to go to Perth, being a home game,” Nilsson said.
