Tim Tszyu is set to make his overseas debut on a major US fight card next month that puts him in line for the undisputed world championship at super-welterweight.

Tszyu fights US Olympian Terrell Gausha as co-feature of the 69.85kg unification rematch between Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano on March 19 in Los Angeles.

Tszyu had been mandated to fight Charlo for his WBO belt last year after becoming the sanctioning body’s No.1 contender.

However, Castano had a controversial draw against WBC, WBA and IBF champion Charlo in their unification fight in February last year, and both have been campaigning for the rematch, leaving Tszyu stuck.

But now, the 27-year-old Australian will seemingly make his US debut on the same card – at the home of the Los Angeles Lakers, Crypto.com Arena – and if successful against Gausha, would fight the winner of Charlo-Castano 2.

While there has been no official confirmation of this card from promoters Premier Boxing Champions, tickets have already been put on sale for the event in the States.

Tszyu is promoted by No Limit Boxing.

When contacted Thursday afternoon regarding the fighter co-featuring on Charlo-Castano 2 in LA, No Limit boss George Rose said: “Something is in the works but it is yet to be finalised.

“We will have a huge announcement on Tim Tszyu’s future next week.”

Tszyu (20-0, 15KO) did not wait around for Castano last year.

Instead, he took a risk and fought world-ranked Japanese slugger Takeshi Inoue to stay active, despite already being mandatory challenger for the title.

Tszyu prevailed with a dominant 12-round decision in Sydney last November.

Meanwhile, the negotiations for the rematch between Charlo and Castano’s camps continued back and forth.

Castano felt robbed of victory in the first fight, in Charlo’s hometown of Houston.

Charlo demanded the rematch also take place in Houston, but Castano wanted “neutral” territory and talks stalled.

However, it now appears they’ve come to a compromise to hold the event in LA while adding Tszyu to the show allows PBC to build his profile in America before taking on either Charlo or Castano, who are both promoted by the boxing giants.

But Gausha (22-2-1, 11KO) will present Tszyu with his toughest challenge to date.

The 2012 Olympian has only lost to world champions Erickson Lubin and Erislandy Lara, and in his last outing produced a devastating knockout win over Jamontay Clark in the second round.

Gausha, from Cleveland, is also promoted by PBC, so will have the American crowd behind him.

Tszyu has previously stated that he will take out the PBC roster one by one in order to become the unified super-welterweight world champion.
