Pizzagate sparks war of words between Tszyu and Fundora

Tim Tszyu “in shock” over Sebastian Fundora’s pre-fight diet.

WHILE Tim Tszyu was sleeping on Wednesday night, having finished a huge training session followed by a single portion of grilled salmon and three chicken wings measured to exactly 140 grams, Sebastian Fundora was wolfing down a pizza.

Fundora was earlier spotted eating a hamburger the same day.

The vast difference in diet left Tszyu stunned, and during a tense face-off at The MGM Grand the Australian champion taunted Fundora about his eating habits.

“I live and breathe this sport, I remember I once did an interview about Cristiano Ronaldo and I implemented the same way of living [as] him, I live by that code of the disciplined lifestyle,” Tszyu later said.

“And Fundora yesterday was having pizza, and having burgers. I’m in shock.

“I’m actually in shock as a professional athlete, who is two days out from this fight, that he’s eating shit like that. It baffles me.”

But the 197cm Fundora brushed off any notion he would struggle to make the 154 pound (69.9kg) limit, and explained why he doesn’t have trouble keeping weight off.

“I work hard, I also have a fast metabolism,” Fundora told this masthead.

“It’s just easy for me you know, maybe it’s a gift, like my height. God gives me a lot of gifts and I use them.”

Fundora was annoyed that Tszyu had criticised his diet.

“What I eat doesn’t make him go to the bathroom, what I eat doesn’t make Tim lose weight, so what should he care for?” Fundora said.

“I’m professional, I make weight every single time, I don’t have no problem with it.

“I feel very comfortable at 154, the last fight wasn’t hard, but this fight, it feels like it’s even easier to make the weight.

“That’s why I’m eating these things.”

Tszyu’s private chef, Omar Iferd, outlined what Tszyu consumed on Wednesday.

“He had a chicken thigh fillet omelette for breakfast, then for a morning snack he had almond blueberry cheesecake, then in the evening salmon, and after that, chicken wings, 140 grams,” Iferd said.

“Salmon is full of fat and Omega three.

“He’s strong mentally, he’s a warrior and a champion. And this food is enough for him to have energy for training, we had a big session last night, he doesn’t feel like he’s tired or he’s starving.

“We do it very professionally, we know what we’re doing.”

Tszyu and Fundora battle for the unified WBO and WBC super-welterweight titles.

Tszyu is coming off impressive victories over Tony Harrison, Carlos Ocampo and Brian Mendoza – who knocked out Fundora last August in his only defeat so far.

But Fundora, who has beaten the likes of Ocampo, Erickson Lubin and Sergio Garcia, said he has a better resume than Tszyu.

“I’ve been fighting the top 10 since [I was] 14-0, so I’m going to say me,” Fundora said.

“I deserve this spot, a lot of people say because I lost that last fight I don’t deserve it, but I’m going to tell you guys, I do deserve this spot.”
