Western Bulldogs premiership hero Clay Smith is making a name for himself as a boxer, recording a devastating 30-second knockout in his third professional bout.

Smith played just 55 AFL games in an injury-interrupted career, retiring in the middle of 2018 due to a persistent knee injury, but remains a club favourite due to his heroics in the run to the 2016 premiership.

He goalled in all four Bulldogs finals, famously kicking four in the first half of the preliminary final thriller against GWS, along with the major that gave the Dogs the lead for good on Grand Final day.

Now 31 and fighting at super middleweight, Smith claimed his third career victory on Wednesday night by knocking out Jamie Phillips at the Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington.

“He has dropped him like a bad habit with two huge right hands,” the commentator proclaimed.

Ex-Western Bulldogs player Clay Smith moved to 3-0 as a pro boxer.

It is worth noting Smith’s opponent Phillips had not fought in almost five years and came into the bout with a career record of 1-2.

Smith cheekily suggested pre-fight he would love to get in the ring with GWS captain Toby Greene one day.

“Oh look, I wouldn’t mind having a go at Toby Greene,” he told Seven.

“We’ve had a few run ins on the footy field, but look, he’s a ripper fella. He sort of plays the game in the same spirit with a little bit of competitiveness.

“There’s that photo where he’s got me by the jaw and he’s squeezing me.

“So I wouldn’t mind landing one on his chin.”
