Boxing bombshell as agrees to fight Sonny Bill Williams in Aussie superfight

A showdown between former footy players Paul Gallen and Sonny Bill Williams appears to finally be on the cards this year.

A boxing bout between Sonny Bill Williams and is edging closer to a reality after the Cronulla Sharks great agreed to a $1 million contract to face the dual international.

The two NRL legends have traded barbs for the best part of a decade, with a fight between the pair appearing inevitable after they clashed during a panel discussion following the Parramatta-Warriors game in 2022.

That confrontation then spilt over into a heated discussion captured by cameras behind the scenes.

However, a fight between the two never eventuated after they failed to agree to terms, with the length of rounds understood to be the main issue.

But according to Code Sports, Gallen has now officially agreed to come out of retirement to fight Williams, with more than $1 million on the table.

The former NSW captain said talks have been ongoing since January with both parties committed to entering the ring.

And Gallen has now gone a step further and agreed to the fight. Over to you Sonny Bill.

At this point, the length of the rounds is still unclear.

It is understood Gallen does not want to fight anything less than three-minute rounds, while the Kiwi international is pushing for two-and-a-half-minute rounds.

Yet while Gallen initially wanted a 10-round fight, his position has softened and he has agreed to an eight-round fight.

Williams last fought in 2022, losing to former UFC star Mark Hunt.

His record stands at 9-1, while Gallen (15-2-1) has two losses on his record to Justis Huni and Kris Terzievski.
