Jeff Fenech’s shock split with Brock Jarvis has taken an explosive twist with the legendary trainer joining forces with former UFC star-turned-boxer Tyson Pedro.

This masthead can reveal Fenech will be in Pedro’s corner for his boxing debut on Wednesday week – just a fortnight after sensationally severing ties with Jarvis.

Fenech was supposed to be in Jarvis’ corner for his blockbuster fight against American superstar Keith Thurman at the Hordern Pavilion on March 12.

But Fenech will now be calling the shots for Pedro in a crushing blow to his former protege Jarvis’ hopes of upsetting Thurman in the biggest fight of his career.

“He walked through my front door and it reminded me of when Brock walked through my door 12 years ago with that attitude,” Fenech told this masthead. “Brock had this amazing work ethic, and I got the same feeling from Tyson.

“Everything I told him, he did. He’s got this book, and he wrote everything down, and I thought I’d just be doing one session with him, but after that one session, I couldn’t believe it.

“Within two sessions, his power and everything had improved threefold.

“And he’s just gotten better and better.”

Fenech said the pair clicked instantly and their partnership has helped the former four-time world champion rediscover his love of the sport.

“I told him, ‘Listen, Tyson, the number one thing is if you don’t like me, or I don’t like you, it’s not going to work’,” Fenech said. “But he’s loving what he’s doing.

“He’s agreed with everything, and I haven’t done too much – he’s fighting in a couple of weeks – but hopefully it gives me that spark that I need.

“I still love the sport.”

Although he won’t be working with Jarvis for his PPV headliner against Thurman on March 12, Fenech says he still wants the best for his former pupil.

“I spoke to his team yesterday, and it kills me because I love him and I want to help him,” he said. “But I’m in a no-win situation, because if he loses, people will blame me.

“I love the kid to death, and it’s killing me that I have to say no to him. It’s truly killing me.

“It’s a real bad situation, and Tyson’s got nothing to do with it. I’ve told Brock’s team that Tyson wanted to work with me, and I’m going to get paid working with someone who wants to work with me.”
