SIXERS captain Brendan Teys will remain with Adelaide for another tilt at the NBL pennant this summer after penning a one-year contract to remain with the club.
It will be the sixth season for Teys at Adelaide Arena, where he completes the Australian contingent alongside Daniel Johnson, Nathan Sobey, Majok Deng, Anthony Drmic, Adam Doyle, Harry Froling and Jack McVeigh.
US imports Ramone Moore and Jacob Wiley have also been secured for the upcoming season with one import spot remaining open.
Teys was chuffed to continue with the club.
“It’s awesome to be able to resign with the 36ers,” he said.
“It’s a club that I’ve been a part of since I started in the league.
“It was always my plan to come back with a good group of guys, a good
organisation and a great coaching staff.”
The 188cm shooting guard said the players would use last season’s near miss as motivation as they embark on another gruelling pre-season, starting on Monday.
“Over the last few years we’ve been pretty successful, finishing first on the ladder and then
missing out on a championship last season, so the main goal for everyone this year,
including me, is to go one step further and win that championship,” Teys said.
Adelaide 36ers coach Joey Wright said Teys would continue to be an instrumental player.
“We’re bringing back a player that knows the ins and outs of our program extremely well
and who embodies everything we’re about,” Wright said.
“To have Brendan Teys involved in everything we do is important.”
Meanwhile, Lightning players Stephanie Blicavs and Nicole Seekamp have been named in the Australian Opals World Cup squad for this month’s selection camp at the Australian Institute of Sport, where the squad will be trimmed to 12 for the September 22-30 tournament in Spain.
Lightning coach Chris Lucas will be one of three assistant coaches working under head coach Sandy Brondello.
