The Tasmania JackJumpers have their Jack McVeigh replacement.

With the NBL championship winning star on his way to the Houston Rockets in the NBA, a place on next season’s roster opened up allowing forward Reuben Te Rangi to sign a one-year deal.

The New Zealand international joins the club on the back of a four-year stint with the South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Despite not yet turning 30, Te Rangi is set for his 12th NBL season.

“Reuben is an incredible addition to our team,” JackJumpers coach Scott Roth said.

“His experience and skills on both ends of the court will be invaluable to us as we aim for success in the NBL25 season. We’re keen to see him bring his leadership and talent to Tasmania.”

The club’s general manager Mika Vukona echoed Roth’s statement.

“We are thrilled to welcome Reuben to the JackJumpers family,” he said.

“His impressive track record and versatility make him a perfect fit for our team. We believe his presence will add experience to our roster, and we look forward to what he will achieve with us this season.”

Speaking on McVeigh’s departure before the deal was made official, Roth said the club would adopt a next man up mentality.

“On a selfish end, it’s going to hurt us (from a playing standpoint) and we’ll have to obviously have some holes to fill but from an overall standpoint of the club and the NBL and the exposure around the world, wow,” he said at the time.

“It’s going to be a great test for Majok Dang, who gets to come back and hopefully be healthy and ready to go coming off the Olympics, and ‘Fab’ (Fabijan Krslovic).

“And I think people are going to be really surprised with Craig Sword and what he can do.”
