Why you should play SuperCoach NBL, the official fantasy game of the NBL

Get ready basketball fans - SuperCoach NBL is back. Whether a veteran or rookie, this cheat sheet will guide you through everything you need to join the official fantasy basketball league for prizes and bragging rights.

The NBL is just days away from its biggest season ever – and so is the competition’s official fantasy game, SuperCoach NBL.

Don’t miss your chance to build your own squad of basketball stars to compete for bragging rights and fantastic prizes, including NBL merch and cash every week.

The players on your roster score points based on their performance in NBL matches every week of the 2025 season, starting September 19.

Take on the role of coach and general manager, making the tough decisions as to who plays in your starting line-up and who sits on your bench, trading players, and more.

PICKING A TEAM

You have $2 million to spend on 10 players – four guards (two starting, two on the bench), four forwards (two starting, two bench) and two centres (one starting, one bench).

Each week the five players you choose to start will score points based on their performances in NBL matches. The simple scoring formula awards one point for each point scored and additional points for rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.

The player you nominate as captain will earn double points, and your nominated vice-captain is the back-up in case the captain doesn’t play.

Your team also earns 50 per cent of the points scored by the five bench players each round, so choose wisely.

Once you have picked a team, create or join a league to take on friends, family, work colleagues and other basketball fans of all skill levels.

PRIZES

In each of the 20 rounds, the top coach (based on their round score) will win the round cash prize of $500 (doubled to $1000 if a SuperCoach Plus subscriber during that round).

The runner-up each round receives a $150 NBL Store voucher.

A major prize for the overall winner at the end of the season will be announced soon.

TRADE TIME

If you don’t nail every starting pick, don’t panic. Fantasy coaches can use two trades every week to adjust for form and availability, plus four Trade Boosts that allow you to use three trades for that round. Trade Boosts can be activated at any time during the season at a maximum of one per round.

Player prices will change based on their form during the season – buy low and sell high!

FIVE STARS TO GET YOU STARTED

Bryce Cotton (Perth Wildcats) $448,500 GRD

The most expensive player in SuperCoach NBL, and with good reason. Cotton scored more points than any other player last season at an average of 36.8 per game. The 200-game Wildcat is one of the NBL’s all-time greats, and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Doesn’t come cheap, but worth every dollar.

Xavier Cooks (Sydney Kings) $365,500 FWD

Missed the first season of SuperCoach NBL after signing with the Washington Wizards but returns to the team he led to back-to-back championships. In his most recent season with the Kings he won the league’s MVP award. Will be one of the big dogs in fantasy this year.

Keli Leaupepe (Sydney Kings) $69,000 FWD

SuperCoach is about getting the right big guns and finding the best value picks. Super talents like Leaupepe, who is back in Australia after five years playing college basketball in the US and assigned a bargain basement price tag, are the types of players to put on your watch list.

Malique Lewis (South-East Melbourne Phoenix) $115,000 FWD

The Next Stars program has brought some huge names to the NBL including Alexandre Sarr, who played for the Wildcats last season before being selected at pick 2 in the NBA Draft. Lewis is one of this year’s crop of NBA hopefuls who could prove bargain picks in SuperCoach NBL.

Parker Jackson-Cartwright (New Zealand Breakers) $421,200 GRD

Arrived at the Breakers for his first stint in the NBL last season and quickly established himself as one of the league’s biggest stars, and one of the best scorers in SuperCoach NBL. Finished behind only Cotton for total points, but remember the Breakers have a bye in rounds 3 and 4 – make him top of your shopping list after that.
