Shot clock: Quickfire guide to setting up your SuperCoach NBL team for round 9

The second-most popular player in SuperCoach NBL is injured – and he’s not the only big name who has to go. Here’s how to get your team set for round 9.

Some of the most popular players in SuperCoach NBL are heading for the exit.

After a run of double game rounds Melbourne United, South East Melbourne Phoenix and Tasmania JackJumpers are back to singles – and coaches contemplating holding United star Jack White were dealt a blow when he suffered a calf injury against the Wildcats on Saturday night.

Despite sitting out the second half White still managed the fourth-highest score of the round, but he’s set to miss a stretch of games – and when he does return he’s likely to lose value. Best to use that cash on another top-liner.

Meanwhile, Phoenix centre Matt Hurt is also ready to go while superstar rookie Will Hickey may have finally reached the end of his cash-making run after adding $197k to his starting price tag.

That leaves plenty of money to spend – here’s how to use it to get the best score in round 9.

ON THE DOUBLE

The schedule is the key to SuperCoach NBL success. Targeting players from teams that play twice in a round will give you twice as many opportunities to score points.

In round 9 there are only two on the double – Perth Wildcats and the Brisbane Bullets.

United has singles the next two rounds, Phoenix goes on a run of three single-game rounds and Tasmania doesn’t get another double until round 13. Yikes!

After a run of seven single-game rounds, the Bullets are suddenly the team to watch. They have a double this week then a single, then go on a spree of eight doubles in a row.

If you have any Breakers in your squad try to hold them for one more week. After a single this round they have four doubles in a row.

CAPTAIN CALL

Aiming for those quadruple captain points (double score off a double-game round), Perth and Brisbane are the teams to target when picking a captain for round 9. It’s hard to predict which Wildcat will put up a big score on a given week, but Kristian Doolittle and Keanu Pinder are the most likely. Pinder can be hot and cold but has a higher ceiling, while Doolittle is a more reliable play. For the Bullets Tyrell Harrison and Keandre Cook are the two standouts. From rounds 2-7 Harrison didn’t score below 28, but then he dropped an 18 against United at the weekend. Cook scored 41 in that game after 34 the week before against Cairns.
