Joe Ingles says Utah Jazz know what to expect from Joey Wright’s fast-paced Adelaide 36ers in their game this weekend

Joe Ingles is keen to make sure he’s on the floor when the Utah Jazz plays his home-town NBL team Adelaide. And he says there will be no surprises this year after the 36ers pushed the NBA titan last year.

Joe Ingles says his Utah Jazz knows exactly what to expect from the Adelaide 36ers when they renew acquaintances in Salt Lake City on Sunday (Australian time).

The Jazz is hosting the 36ers in an NBA-NBL pre-season game for the second year in a row after winning their last clash by 30 points.

But Adelaide at least made them earn it by leading by three points at quarter-time and hanging around for much of the contest.

“This week is pretty full on and then you get thrown into a game, and for all guys it’s a different team, a bit of nerves playing at the stadium for the first time, a bit of anxiousness you just want to start the season,” Ingles said after Jazz practice yesterday.

“The way Joey (Wright) coaches they (36ers) full court and play with energy, and that’s what they did last year, they made shots, (Nathan) Sobey played really well which kind of kept them in it and we pulled away a little at the end.

“But I guess we expect the same thing, it’s the same coach and they will be competitive. It’s the end of their pre-season getting ready to play so we’re at the start but I’m excited about it.”

Ingles said he was planning on playing against the team from his home town but was yet to be told for sure by the Jazz coaching staff.

”These are the games I want to be involved in and even if it is limited, I want to be out there playing against guys that I know and Joey who I have played against for a little while before,” he said.

There has been significant personnel change at Utah in the off-season with the likes of Ricky Rubio, Derrick Favors and Jae Crowder leaving and welcoming Bojan Bogdanovic and Mike Conley among others.

“We haven’t got into it (specific roles) too much yet, the guys we have brought in, we’re a talented team and that’s what these days are about - playing with different line ups,” Ingles said.

“We have four or five guys who are going to play big roles on our team with significant minutes.

“It’s about all of us getting out there and working it out, but the best thing about this team since I’ve been here is there are no egos, no selfishness, and we all want to win.

“That’s why guys ended up coming here. Jeff Green takes a minimum (wage) to come here because he wants to win, Ed Davis takes less because he wants to win, and this is the deepest team I’ve been on since being here.

“I guess we just feel it out along the way and it’s such a long season, but I feel like I’m an important part and wherever that is we’ll figure it out.”

The Sixers trained at the University of Utah today and will be joined by big man Harry Froling today when he arrives from Sydney after sorting out last minute visa issues.

They will get their first look at Vivint Smart Home Arena for the trip on Friday when they hold main training there ahead of the game at 11.30am Sunday (Australian time).
