Uncertainty over Joey Wright’s position as Adelaide 36ers coach is delaying a decision on Anthony Drmic’s future with the star forward out of contract and yet to re-sign with the club.
The Advertiser has been told that Drmic is happy in Adelaide and has no issue playing under Wright who elevated him to permanent starter this season, but a new deal is not yet forthcoming.

The Sixers have told Drmic they want to retain him but the 28-year-old wants to know more about the direction of the club amid speculation Wright may not be coach next season.
Drmic is one of seven players nominated for the NBL’s most improved player award this season, having averaged 10 points and four rebounds per game.
He is expected to attract significant interest from rival clubs when free agency talks open two weeks after the NBL grand final in March.
Drmic is one of only two Australians along with big-man Harry Froling who are not signed for next season but there may be only one roster spot available with development player Alex Mudronja to be elevated to the squad in 2020-21.
Daniel Johnson is favourite to win his fifth MVP award for the 36ers on February 22 and is entering the final year of a three-year deal, while co-captains Brendan Teys and Kevin White and emerging young man Jack McVeigh are all locked away.
There will however be movement in the club’s import ranks with Ramone Moore almost certain to have played his last game for Adelaide and Eric Griffin’s one year deal set to expire.
The club is yet to speak to Griffin about whether he returns next year but Jerome Randle signed a two-year contract in his return to Adelaide and is expected to see it out.
