Adelaide 36ers to report homophobic slurs from fans aimed at star big man during fiery clash against United

Homophobic slurs against a 36ers star will form part of the team’s submission to the NBL alleging fans made the disgusting remarks during Sunday’s explosive clash against Melbourne United.

Former NBA star involved in altercation

Homophobic slurs aimed at Adelaide star Isaac Humphries will form part of the 36ers’ submission to the NBL Integrity Unit following an ugly altercation between players and fans in Melbourne on Sunday.

Adelaide staff and players on the bench allege they heard fans making homophobic remarks about Humphries.

The Adelaide big man – who came out as gay while playing for United in 2022 – is understood not to have heard the disparaging comments.

Multiple 36ers players and officials, though, claimed they did and the club has included the alleged homophobic remarks in its report to the league.

The slurs add to alleged racist comments levelled at the 36ers’ import guard Kendric Davis.

Code Sports can confirm the alleged racism aimed at Davis has been included in the 36ers’ submission to the NBL Integrity Unit.

In a litany of issues stemming from the game at John Cain Arena, Adelaide officials will also lodge a complaint alleging that the United court announcer incited tension between the teams.

It comes after several Sixers fans who travelled to Melbourne contacted the club saying the court announcer crossed the line during the clash between players and fans.

It’s claimed the United announcer repeatedly yelled: “Not in this house” during the first scuffle between Adelaide star Montrezl Harrell and United players and staff.

Earlier on Tuesday, Harrell took to social media to question if he’ll return to Australia after Sunday’s ugly altercation.

The former NBA Sixth Man of the Year faces a significant suspension for his role in a melee with United players before the emotions spilt over into the stands with the fans.

Harrell has headed home to America for the FIBA break and while on board posted this message during a live Instagram feed on the flight: “Do I come back to Australia”, with an emoji of a person putting their hands in the air questioning.

Harrell’s post comes as Adelaide officials privately fear the ex-Los Angeles Clippers big man will become a target on the road following his emotional outburst against United.

Code Sports understands NBL and Melbourne officials are struggling to identify the name of the fan wearing the grey hoodie who was captured pushing players.

Contact has been made to various parties involved in the incident to obtain details, but it’s believed co-operation is a battle at this point.
