THE Adelaide 36ers have re-signed Anthony Drmic and confirmed they plan to keep captain Brendan Teys on their roster for next season.
Drmic has become the eighth Australian to sign with the 36ers for next season leaving room for three imports, but with Teys expected to be the ninth it could cut the overseas roster spots to two.
Drmic and Teys will join Mitch Creek, Daniel Johnson, Nathan Sobey, Majok Deng, Adam Doyle, Harry Froling and Jack McVeigh at the Sixers as they set about avenging the grand final loss to Melbourne.
It’s not known which if any of last season’s imports - Josh Childress, Ramone Moore and Shannon Shorter - will be joining them.
Drmic has signed a two-year deal which will keep him at Adelaide until 2020.
The 198cm shooting guard averaged 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in the past two seasons with the Sixers.
“It’s really good to be back. We feel like as a team we’ve started something and I want to come back and finish that and hopefully get a championship next year,” Drmic said.
“It’s really good to be back and (I’m) happy to be back in Adelaide.
“The fans are probably the best fans in the league. I’ve obviously got a biased opinion, but I really do believe they’re the best fans in the league.
“We’ve got most of the team coming back, so being with all my teammates and then Joey being one of the best coaches in the NBL is the main reason for returning.
“I feel like Joey gets the best out of me and my game, so it will be really good to come back and be comfortable and hopefully improve on last year.”
Drmic’s signing suggested Teys may not be continuing his NBL career with Adelaide but coach Joey Wright confirmed he would be part of team.
“He’ll be back with us next year,” Wright said of Teys, who pleaded with his teammates to use the pain of the grand final loss to drive them forward.
“He does a lot more for us than out on the court with the way he walks and talks and lives his life.”
