ADELAIDE has bolstered its roster for next NBL season by signing promising Australian junior Jack McVeigh for the next three years.
A 204cm swingman, McVeigh has captained Australia at under-19 level and has spent the past three seasons at the University of Nebraska
At the 2015 FIBA Under-19 world championships, McVeigh averaged 11 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
“I can come in and be aggressive from the get-go and spread the floor and put it on the floor and make some plays on the offensive end,” McVeigh said.
“They (36ers) play fast, they play hard, they get in people’s faces and all that good stuff. Obviously, they’re led by a good coach and they play an exciting style of basketball and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
The 21-year-old joins fellow Australian Harry Froling at the Sixers for next season.
As revealed on the weekend, Froling, 20, will join Adelaide after playing college basketball at South Methodist University and Marquette University.
He stands 211cm and will be eligible for the 2019 NBA draft after beginning his professional career with Adelaide.
“Joey (Wright) used to run the Queensland performance program back in the day when I was a junior. I’ve known him since then and have always talked to him as a friend and mentor a little bit,” Froling said.
“I’ve had a really good relationship with Joey and that was definitely one of the biggest factors of going into it and opportunity as well. Joey seems to give all of those guys a good chance and a good opportunity and that was one of the other reasons, so I’m excited.
Froling will help fill some of the void left by Boomers centre Matthew Hodgson.
