Woodville South and Kenilworth set for division five SA Amateur Football League grand final replay
TWO amateur clubs will lock horns for premiership glory tomorrow a week after their seasons were supposed to be finished.
WOODVILLE South players and officials expected to be basking in premiership glory or ruing a defeat after the SA Amateur Football League club's division five grand final against Kenilworth last Saturday.
Instead the Cats are preparing to do it all again after the sides were tied 9.10 (64) at full time.
The sides will again clash at Thebarton Oval tomorrow in the league's first grand final replay since 2009 and sixth in the past 50 seasons.
In a finish befitting a premiership decider, Kenilworth spearhead Josh Blyth had a set shot to win the game after taking a mark 50m out from goal with seconds remaining.
His kick was in the air as the siren sounded before cannoning into the right-hand goalpost.
It was the second nailbiting finish of the day for the Cats whose B-grade side went down to North Haven in the division five reserves grand final by four points.
Cats football director Peter Johnson says the club's A-grade result left both sides in disbelief.
"I can't explain the feeling," Johnson says.
"It was unbelievable. I suppose it was numb but we just all went to each other, shook hands and all said we'd do it all again next week."
Preparing for another grand final has not come without its challenges.
Johnson says some players had to ask their bosses for the day off work and the club postponed its Mad Monday and best and fairest count, which was originally intended for this Saturday.
He does not expect any emotional toll to be lingering tomorrow.
"Our boys are pretty positive.
"It's not many times you get to play in a grand final two times in one year.
"It's something you'll never ever forget."
The match will start at noon and be played as a curtain raiser to the division two grand final between Portland and Port District at 2.45pm.
