Western Bulldogs’ early banner of the year contender
REMEMBER this cracking banner from the Western Bulldogs last season? They went close to topping it on Saturday.

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News.
WHEN it comes to who plays the most attractive footy in the AFL, the Western Bulldogs have to be in the conversation.
Adelaide and North Melbourne are also in the mix this year and it’s hard to go past Hawthorn — but the Dogs are right there too.
However, when it comes to who has the funniest banners in the AFL, there is no contest. It’s the Dogs first, daylight second.
The jokers from the West proved it last season by nailing the Brisbane Lions with this zinger in round 23: “Sorry ‘bout this Brisbane, it’s a pretty harsh whack, but your logo looks a lot like, the bloke from Nickelback.”
The Dogs’ banners are the best because they’re actually written by a comedian — Danny McGinlay — and they’re not afraid to test the boundaries of what’s traditionally been deemed acceptable in terms of taunting their opposition.
Of course when you can slight a rival at the same time as condemning authorities then you know you’re on to a winner. And that’s exactly what McGinlay achieved with this gem before Saturday night’s game against Carlton: “It’s a night game. That explains the mid-strength Carlton!”
Perfection (for the uninitiated, full strength beer is prohibited at night games in Victoria under liquor licensing laws).
McGinlay keeps a collection of his banners here. Some of our previous favourites are featured below.
