West Adelaide want the Foxtel Cup for the silverware cabinet

WEST Adelaide is determined to become the first SANFL club to lift the Foxtel Cup after qualifying for the final against East Fremantle.

WEST Adelaide is determined to become the first SANFL club to lift the Foxtel Cup after qualifying for the final against East Fremantle on August 6.

Andrew Collins' side booked its spot in the decider, to be played at AAMI Stadium, with a grinding 17-point win against Claremont on Tuesday night.

The Bloods held their opponents goalless in the second half in a ruthless defensive display.

And now utility Brad Mangan says his team-mates are ready to go one step further.

"Silverware doesn't come around all that often so any chance you have to win some you have to take it," Mangan said. "Collo's said all along we're in it to win it."

After playing under-strength sides in the first two editions of the competition - won by Williamstown (2011) and Claremont (2012) - the Bloods have been serious this year.

Former Hawthorn utility Travis Tuck exemplified their approach with a no-holds-barred attack on the ball and body against Claremont.

"That's Tucky week in, week out," Mangan said.

"He had a bit of a slow start over here because of injury but now he's got his tank he's getting the outside ball as well as playing like a bull on the inside."

Key defenders Ryan Ferguson and Joel Tippett - both nursing sore spots - were left out of Tuesday night's clash.

Mangan said their availability for the final - which comes three days after West's round 18 game against Sturt and offers a $100,000 winner's cheque - would depend on "how their bodies are feeling".

After losing the WAFL grand final to Claremont last season, East Fremantle is in sixth place with a 6-8 record this year.

The Sharks defeated Norwood and Werribee on their way to the final.

"I've watched both of their games but they were both played in torrential rain so it was hard to get a gauge on them," Mangan said.
