On the very first day of the holiday, Greene, 31, decided to head out for a surf in eight foot waves.

The 239-game star crashed out on one wave and lost his board which resulted in him having to be rescued by a jet ski when the driver allegedly said he’d never seen someone coming closer to perishing.

“I was just arrogant,” Greene said on Triple M’s The Rush Hour with JB & Billy.

“We were staying on this beach, and I’d noticed there were these little rocks that you could walk across.

“I noticed all the gun surfers were out surfing on the other side of this point, and I thought, ‘I wonder why no one had paddled out from my side, I’ll just do that because it’ll save me time’.

“So I paddled out, misread the break and how big they were, and that the reef was 30 centimetres deep, and had these eight-foot waves hitting me and blasted my board into the rocks, so that was gone, I couldn’t get it.

“The jet ski (driver) was yelling, ‘Swim sideways because I can’t get to (you)’. He was trying to save me.

“I got under a few waves and told myself, ‘Don’t panic because you’ll die’.

“The (man on the) jet ski came and picked me up, and he said, ‘Mate, that’s as close as I’ve seen someone to perishing here’.

“It was just stupid what I did. It was day one, and I just got excited.”

Thankfully Greene put the day one incident behind him as the holiday only got better as he bent the knee and proposed to his partner Georgia Stirton.

The Giants star pulled off an elaborate, romantic proposal plan and it was obvious from Stirton’s stunned appearance that she never saw it coming.

A video shared on Instagram showed Greene had positioned rose petals in the shape of a heart at a beachside location.

Greene was holding the couple’s daughter Isla when the magic moment happened.

Her caption of the video was priceless.

“Apparently not a prank,” she wrote.

The video shows Greene and Stirton shared a laugh together before the diamond ring was delicately placed on her ring finger.

To make the moment even more special, family members were there to see it first hand with one spectator capturing the moment on camera.

“Just be grateful there’s no audio because all I was saying was ‘what the f’ 20 times’,’’ Stirton replied to a comment on the post.

The adorable couple have been together since 2020.

Greene and Stirton in February celebrated the birth of Isla.

The couple dropped the news about falling pregnant at the 2023 Brownlow Medal.

The footballer said at the time said Isla was his “new best friend”.
