It doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past 21 rounds, it’s all about what happens in the next two. To help plot your path to SuperCoach glory, The Phantom has had a go at predicting the top-three scorers in each position for the final two weeks of the season.
DEFENCE
1. Lachie Whitfield $510,400
Average – Season: 107.6, Three-round: 96.3
Opp: WB (Sydney), GC (Metricon)
Only one SuperCoach ton in the past three matches for the star Giant but it’s likely to be a fast-paced shootout against the Bulldogs on Sunday, which will suit the highly-skilled Whitfield. And then a big score beckons against the Suns in Round 23. The threat of the Touk Miller tag is real but Josh Kelly will be back in the side by then.

2. James Sicily $447,500
Average – Season: 94.7, Three-round: 102.3
GC (Marvel), WC (Optus)
The intercept king was allowed to roam against the Giants last week, tallying his second score of 140 or more for the year. With the Hawks hosting the Suns at Marvel in Sunday, expect a similar performance. There’ll be plenty of work for Sicily to do the following week against the Eagles forwards but this weekend’s score might be enough to get him over the line at No. 2.
3. Darcy Byrne-Jones $509,200
Average – Season: 90.7, Three-round: 104.3
Opp: NM (Marvel), Freo (AO)
Of all defenders, only Nic Newman and Bachar Houli have scored more points than Byrne-Jones in the past five matches. The 23-year-old has posted SuperCoach tons in the Power’s past two wins, at Marvel Stadium in Round 20 and at Adelaide Oval last week. And his side will start favourites in the final two rounds at the same venues.
Next in-line: Jake Lloyd $504,600
Average – Season: 109.7, Three-round: 86
Opp: Melbourne (MCG), St Kilda (SCG)
Fixture appears kind for Lloyd, who scored 122 points in his only appearance at the MCG this season. But the rise of Jordan Dawson in the Swans’ back-half has had a direct impact on Lloyd’s scoring in the past three matches.
MIDFIELD
1. Adam Treloar $633,200
Average – Season: 114, Three-round 142.3
Opp: Adel (AO), Ess (MCG)
Bulldogs star Jack Macrae boasts a better season, three-round and five-round average but the threat of returning Giant Matt de Boer keeps him out of this list, just.
Last week’s 127-point performance made in nine SuperCoach tons on-the-trot for the Collingwood ball-magnet, who has been far-more efficient with the ball in the back-half of the season. On recent history, there will be no direct tag from the Crows and then it’s the Bombers at the MCG. And we all saw what the Bulldogs midfield did to the Bombers in Round 21.
2. Nat Fyfe $622,700
Average – Season: 121.7, Three-round: 131
Opp: Ess (Optus), Port (AO)
Fyfe had 100 SuperCoach points by half-time last week to make it consecutive scores of 140 or more. While Bomber Dylan Clarke will be hanging around, the Fremantle skipper should prove far too strong in Round 22. And even if, as expected, Port Adelaide win comfortably the following week, Fyfe has proven he can still score well.
3. Marcus Bontempelli $588,200
Average – Season: 114.7, Three-round: 132.3
Opp: GWS (Syd), Adel (Ballarat)
If Macrae does cop the de Boer tag on Sunday, it might be Bontempelli’s turn to go big – after 99 points against the Bombers - just as he did a week earlier in Brisbane. And he’s averaging 122 points in his past three matches against the Crows – the Bulldogs’ Round 23 opponent.
Next in-line: Seb Ross $525,600
Average – Season: 95.6, Three-round 129.3
Opp: Carl (MCG), Sydney (SCG)
Brisbane’s Lachie Neale will bounce back at the Gabba this week but the in-form St Kilda midfielder will be around the mark, too. Ross has posted scores of 159, 100 and 129 in the past three weeks and he has a history of strong finishes, averaging 135 points from Round 20 onwards last year.
RUCK
Todd Goldstein has been great this season but it will, again, Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy in the run home.
FORWARD
1. Toby Greene $538,600
Average – Season: 92.5, Three-round 121
Opp: WB (Syd), GC (Metricon)
After moving into the midfield when Stephen Coniglio went down in the opening minutes of Round 17, Green boasts a five-round average of 122.6 - the 10th-highest in the game. He’ll be amongst the action in this weekend’s midfield shootout against the Bulldogs, despite the impending return of Josh Kelly, and he’ll be the first to cash-in against the Suns in Round 23.
2. Josh Dunkley $613,800
Average – Season: 114, Three-round: 116
Opp: GWS (Syd), Adel (Ballarat)
It will take a big two weeks to knock Dunkley off top spot but that’s what The Phantom is expecting from Greene. The star Bulldog won’t be far behind, though, as long as Giants coach Leon Cameron doesn’t decide to throw de Boer his way on Sunday.
3. Rowan Marshall $598,800
Average – Season: 111, Three-round: 105
Opp: Carl (MCG), Syd (SCG)
Marshall finished with 81 points against the Dockers last week, ending his SuperCoach ton streak at nine. But, if the knee is fine, expect Marshall to bounce back against Carlton’s Matthew Kreuzer at the MCG and then a makeshift Sydney ruck combination in Round 23.
Next in-line: Patrick Dangerfield $553,200
Average – 111, Three-round 97.7
Opp: Bris (GABBA), Carl (GMHBA)
You just can’t leave the Geelong star out of the list, especially with a home clash against the Blues in Round 23. But will the Lions get on top of the Cats midfield in Brisbane this week?
Docker Star Michael Walters is also a chance to go big in the final two rounds with a Saturday night clash with the Bombers in Perth looming but is a Touk Miller tag coming the way of Hawk James Worpel?
