The point-of-difference options who should be at the top of your Scott Lycett-replacement list in SuperCoach

Despite being the seventh-ranked player in SuperCoach since Round 13, Power ruckman Scott Lycett has been omitted. The Phantom looks at all the options who could replace him.

Giants, Swans renew battle for Sydney

If you are of the 25,000 SuperCoaches with Scott Lycett, Thursday wasn’t a good day for you.

Don’t worry, I’m one of them.

And, he’s been dropped.

Yep, omitted. If the Magpies didn’t have the bye this weekend, Lycett would be running around in the SANFL.

The same guy who is the seventh-ranked player in SuperCoach since Round 13.

And the same guy who has posted scores of 115, 111, 180, 165, 109, 86, 85 and 111 in the past eight rounds.

I know you don’t care about SuperCoach but c’mon, Ken!

Sure the PCL injury Lycett suffered in Showdown 46 has forced him to play sore but he had 20 disposals, 11 contested possessions, five clearances and 10 hit-outs-to-advantage against the Giants to finish as the third-ranked Port player on the ground last week.

IF MONEY IS NO ISSUE

Rowan Marshall (StK)

$628,800

Three-round average: 128

Only Brodie Grundy has scored more points than Marshall in the past five matches. The young Saint scored eight consecutive SuperCoach tons on-the-trot, six of them in excess of 120. If you can afford him, do it.

Bulldog Josh Dunkley, while $34k more expensive, isn’t far behind.

STRAIGHT SWAP

Travis Boak (Port)

$564,100

Three-round average: 113

If you don’t have Lycett’s teammate, here is your perfect opportunity. For $17k, you’ll get a midfield ball magnet, who has tallied 30 disposals or more and posted SuperCoach tons in 13 of his 16 matches this season.

THE POINTS-OF-DIFFERENCE

Toby Greene (GWS) $490,000

Three-round average: 119

Percentage of teams: 9.3

At this stage of the season, when teams are very similar, points-of-difference become vital — especially in your head-to-head leagues. And Greene is at the top of the list.

In the absence of star on-baller Stephen Coniglio, the 25-year-old has moved back into the midfield on a permanent basis, recording scores of 138, 112 and 107 in the past three matches. Josh Kelly isn’t far away but, after having such an influence, it’s hard to see coach Leon Cameron altering Greene’s role too much.

Caleb Daniel (WB) $491,000

Three-round average: 88

Percentage of teams: 6.8

The playmaking defender is one of only seven forwards to boast a three-figure average this season but Daniel has become a point-of-difference after making an earlier than expected return from a hamstring injury. The skilful right-footer only managed 68 points in his first game back against the Saints in Round 19 but Daniel recorded a SuperCoach ton — his 10th of the season — last week.

Tom Lynch (Rich) $435,400

Three-round average: 117

Percentage of teams: 3.3

With scores of 103, 116 and 132, Lynch is the fifth-highest scoring forward over the past three rounds — only Dunkley, Marshall, Patrick Dangerfield and Greene have scored more points. But his $435k price-tag has Lynch, who ranks No. 1 in the competition for scoreboard impact since Round 16, listed as the 25th-most expensive in the game. With Melbourne and Carlton at the MCG to come in the next two weeks, expect Lynch’s form to continue.

Jack Darling (WC) $480,700

Three-round average: 108

Percentage of teams: 2.5

Can we really trust a player who has posted scores of 9 and 22 this season? That’s 31 points combined in two games! But the West Coast forward has posted SuperCoach tons in four of his past five matches after booting 18 goals since Round 14. The Eagles take on Carlton this week and then host the Crows in Perth. You don’t win by playing it safe.

Tom Hawkins (Geel) $389,800

Three-round average: 99

Percentage of teams: 3

If you’re after a player who is likely to kick multiple bags of goals and, as a result, storm home in SuperCoach, Hawkins could be your man. The Geelong forward tallied 17 disposals, seven marks, five goals and 152 against the Swans last week and the Cats take on the Dockers in Round 21, before hosting the Kangaroos and Blues down at the Cattery, as well as a trip to Brisbane, to finish the year.
