That is not the norm for coaches ahead of the biggest game of the year, but with the Sydney Swans coach and his counterpart Chris Fagan having experienced the traditional press conference before, they brought a refreshing level of calm to the occasion.

With Swans stand-in captain Dane Rampe and Lions co-captain Harris Andrews, the coaches decided to form a comedy duo and fed off one another as they took questions from the press pack.

Fagan drew some laughs when he declared his Lions are “equal dogs” with the Swans when asked if he felt like his side – who finished fifth on the ladder – were underdogs against the minor premiers.

His answer drew a smirk of approval from Longmire who filled the room with laughter when asked about his expectations for Katy Perry’s pre-game performance.

There has been speculation surrounding whether or not Perry will perform her smash-hit ‘Roar’ because of it’s natural link to the Lions, but when Fox Footy’s David Zita jokingly stated that Longmire and Fagan seemed like big fans of the pop star, the 2012 premiership coach produced an unexpected response.

“I’ve got it on my playlist. One of the many genres that I’m into. ‘Firework’, I could rattle them off, I was listening to them on the way here,” Longmire said with a laugh.

“But it would be fair to say, hopefully we don’t listen to it too much whenever it’s on.

“That’s no disrespect to Katy. She’s a wonderful singer.”

It was an uncharacteristic moment in front of the cameras for Longmire, who is normally quite reserved with the media.

But he still ticked off the serious topics throughout the press conference which included the heartbreak of captain Callum Mills missing the Grand Final and agreeing with Fagan that all-listed player should receive a premiership medal.
