EMERGING St Kilda leader Jack Steven won his third Trevor Barker Award in four seasons on Thursday night.

Steven, 26, considered a frontrunner to replace Saints champion Nick Riewoldt as captain next year, polled 172 votes to finish ahead of Jarryn Geary (157) and six-time medallist Riewoldt (153).

Steven is the 10th player in St Kilda’s history to win the club’s best and fairest three times following victories in 2013 and 2015.

The speedster was pivotal in St Kilda winning six of its past eight games to only just miss out on the finals.

Steven played 22 games, averaging career-high numbers for disposals (28), contested possessions (11) and clearances (five).

The ball magnet collected 30 or more disposals on eight occasions and finished with the second-highest number (117) of inside 50s in the competition behind only Patrick Dangerfield (179).

Runner-up Geary received the Lenny Hayes Player Trademark Award, voted on by teammates, for demonstrating the club’s values.

Riewoldt finished the year strongly, helped by nine goals and 21 marks in Round 23, to leapfrog Leigh Montagna (4th) and Jack Newnes (5th).

Ultra-consistent Saints midfielder Seb Ross (6th), Tom Hickey (8th) and Tim Membrey (9th) made their debuts in the top 10.

Membrey, who kicked 44 goals in just his second year at Moorabbin, also collected the award for best emerging player.

Sam Gilbert was given the best clubman award, named after dual Brownlow medallist Robert Harvey.
