Port Adelaide star and four-time All-Australia Robbie Gray says trying to help those affected by the fires that ravaged Australia this summer was the least AFL best players could do.
Gray and Port big man Scott Lycett will represent Victoria alongside Adelaide captain Rory Sloane, while fellow Crows Rory Laird, Taylor Walker and Brodie Smith will line-up for the All Stars.
“I was keen to put my hand up and do anything I could to help out,’’ Gray, who travelled home to East Gippsland to conduct coaching clinic back in January said on SEN SA Breakfast.
And he said to get to get up close to superstars from other teams would be a unique experience.
“I was actually at the last (State of Origin) game watching, so to be involved is certainly an honour,’’ Gray added.

“To get the opportunity to play alongside some of the best players in the country in pretty rare. You watch a lot of these guys from afar, I’ve got to know Bonty (Marcus Bontempelli), I always liked the way he goes about so pretty keen to pay alongside him.
“Obviously Dusty (Dustin Martin) is going to be a player a lot of people would look forward to playing with. There is so much quality all over the ground in both teams, so it’s a really good night,’’ he said.
Gray said he expected Port to again inject a lot of youth at AFL level in 2020 after some promising signs from first year players in last week’s internal trial.
“I thought the young guys showed some stuff so that was really exciting,’’ Gray said.
“(Mitch Georgiades) he hasn’t played footy for almost a year, he hasn’t missed a beat in pre-season.
“He’s a pretty big lad, he likes to jump at the footy and we think he’s going to play some footy at AFL level this year, he’ll probably be in the mix for Round 1.
“You put those guys with the boys we got last year and the youth of the club is very exciting,’’ he said.
