Power star Robbie Gray tipped to play Marsh Series match against Western Bulldogs after recovering from minor injury

After withdrawing from Friday night’s State of Origin Bushfire Relief match due to foot soreness, Port Adelaide expects Robbie Gray to take the field this weekend for its second Marsh Series clash of 2020.

Port Adelaide assistant coach Jarrad Schofield expects star Robbie Gray to play in the Power’s second Marsh Community Series game against the Western Bulldogs despite having to withdraw from the State of Origin match.

Gray had to pull out of Friday night’s bushfire relief game at Marvel Stadium to manage foot soreness.

After getting through training on Monday unscathed, Schofield said Gray would likely line-up against the Bulldogs in Whyalla on Saturday.

“I’d like to think so,” he said.

“I don’t think it is anything that will keep him out of playing this week.”

Gray was replaced by Power teammate Travis Boak in the Victorian squad, while ruckman Scott Lycett played for the All Stars.

Schofield said the big man had pulled up a little sore after the game, but he also should be okay for the weekend’s pre-season clash.

“He trained today, he said he was a little bit sore, maybe that was from playing on Marvel Stadium for the first time this season and it’s a bit of a harder ground, but he’s fine,” he added.

Zak Butters came off sore after running into Hamish Hartlett during training, but Schofield also said it was of no concern.

Exciting youngster Mitch Georgiades will be in the mix for selection after being rested from the Under 23 trial game against the Crows to freshen up, while Jack Watts could make his return from his horror ankle and leg injury suffered last year should he get through training.

The former No. 1 draft pick was named in the initial squad for Port’s first Marsh Community Series clash against Brisbane, but did not make the final cut after suffering a minor setback.

Schofield said this was not related to his ankle.

“He couldn’t play through injury, but he needs to get some training, if he’s right to play and up for selection we will definitely look at him,” he said.

“If he is right, he is in the mix – if not, we keep pushing forward.

“His performance on the track has been fine, it’s just whether there is a spot for him.”
