YOUNG Port Adelaide ruckman Sam Hayes will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his ACL in a routine training drill.
Hayes, named in the ruck in last year’s under-18 All-Australian team, was recruited with pick 47 in the national draft and showed exciting signs in his first season at the Power.
“It’s really unfortunate for Sam,” Port football manager Chris Davies said.
“He felt some pain in his knee after landing in a marking contest and scans have confirmed he tore the ligament.
“The fact he’s come such a long way this year, from a physical perspective, is testament to the work he’s put in since arriving at the club.
“I know he’ll attack his rehabilitation with the same discipline he has applied to his training, which will give him the best opportunity to be back early in the 2019 season.”
Shocking news for exciting @PAFC ruckman Sam Hayes with the club confirming he has ruptured an ACL at training and will miss a year of footy. The kid can play.
