Travis Boak completes the Ultimate Pie Challenge

YOU’VE got to do what the coach says and for Travis Boak that meant copping a plate of shaving cream.

The Port Adelaide Football Club skipper took one for the team this week to launch the Childhoold Cancer Association’s biggest fundraiser in its history, the Ultimate Pie Challenge.

Officially launched today in the Sunday Mail, the challenge aims to raise $1 million between now and April 30 to help children living with cancer and their families.

The concept, modelled on the highly successful ice-bucket challenge, involves participants filming themselves being hit in the face with a plate of whipped cream or shaving cream.

They must then post the video on social media, nominate three friends to carry out the challenge and donate to the cause online.

Boak, 27, who is an ambassador for the CCA, said coach Ken Hinkley relished in the opportunity to pie him in front of his team mates.

“He grabbed the rest of the (shaving cream) can and whacked it on my face and really smeared it in so he really got the most out of it,” he said.

“The idea is (the challenge) it’s something that kids can really see and enjoy, especially the kids that are in hospital and are struggling.”

Boak will today challenge David Koch, Taylor Walker and Thanasi Kokkinakis to take part and there are hopes the initiative can reach the likes of US President Barack Obama.

CCA chief executive officer Cath O’Loughlin said the association was currently supporting almost 400 families with the aim of expanding that support through the Ultimate Pie Challenge.

“That includes providing wheelchairs and accommodation for country families and counselling for children who have been diagnosed as well as siblings, parents and grandparents,” she said.
