Port Adelaide senior assistant Michael Voss is confident they can hit back in this weekend’s Showdown at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
Port Adelaide sits seventh on the ladder just behind the Crows with both clubs sitting on four wins at three losses.
“We expect a response,’’ Voss said on SEN radio.
“It’s a very important game for us,’’ he said.
Voss said it was good to see a response in the second quarter but it was hard to “chase the game” after Collingwood kicked seven first quarter goals.
“Unfortunately we didn’t put up much fight in the first quarter which was pretty disappointing,’’ Voss added.
“When you’re chasing the game at an away venue against a quality opposition is a difficult thing to do.
“It’s got to be addressed. “They (Collingwood) were sure ready to go and able to dominate the scoreboard as a result.
Voss said he couldn’t pin point why Port struggled early behind one of the premiership favourites after a solid preparation.
“The build up in the rooms was fantastic, there was real good energy in the rooms before hand,’’ Voss said.
“We trained pretty well, so there was real good energy in the rooms before hand,’’ he said.
Voss said captain Ollie Wines would no doubt be focused on hitting back after a poor performance against Collingwood.
“As captain what do is you feel a little bit of extra weight of responsibility,’’ Voss added.
“I don’t want sort of make this any bigger than what it already is.
“He has to bring his strengths and when he plays that way the team falls in behind it,’’ he said.
