Port Adelaide co-captain Ollie Wines said he has come through his first game of 2019 in good shape.
Wines returned in last weekend’s loss to Brisbane at the Gabba and said he would be much better for the outing.
“The shoulder was really good, I copped a couple of really nice knocks on it which tested it,’’ Wines said.
“(I) pulled up fine. The only thing was match fitness which is going to come.
“Brisbane play a quick style of footy so it took it out of me,’’ he said.
Wines said Port made some poor decisions late in the game which proved costly.
“A lot of decisions we could have made better,’’ Wines told on FiveAA radio.
“Held on to the ball, a lot of the time we were trying to still take the game on even though we were a goal up where we had to take a make and take the sting out of the match and we weren’t able to do that.
“Against a team like the Lions, up there, a young team who as soon as they get a hint of being a chance to win they are very hard to stop.
“They are an exciting team,’’ Wines said.
Wines said Port faced a very different build up to this weekend’s clash with Richmond which has been forced to make a huge number of changes.
“It’s been difficult this week,’’ Wines said.
“A lot of our strategic set-up goes into our set-up at stoppage and we’re unable to understand what Richmond are going to week as they’ve never been without Cotchin and Martin.
“Their set-up and the dynamics in there, we probably don’t really understand until we see them on Saturday.
“It’s about us recognising the situation and adjusting to that,’’ he said.
Star forward Robbie Gray said on SEN Adelaide the Power were hoping an unchanged line-up could bounce back against a very different looking Richmond outfit which will be led by South Australian Shane Edwards for the first time.
“It’s nice to go in unchanged,’’ Gray said.
“For the most past of the game (last week) we were pretty happy with how we played.
“We shot ourself in the foot in that second quarter, we missed a few shots, myself included. We were in a position to win but couldn’t hold on,’’ he said.
Gray said he wasn’t surprised by Connor Rozee’s breakout game given what the Rising Star nomination and fellow Port Adelaide draftees had showed the club over the summer.
“It’s not really surprising, yeah outstanding game from Connor,’’ Gray said.
“For a third game player he’s really mature and it was an outstanding performance.”
Wines echoed those sentiments.
“20 disposals and five goals, he was telling the boys he could have kicked seven,’’ Wines said.
“All three, to have the impact they’re having is enormous,’’ he said.
