PORT Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley wants to keep contracted forward Jarman Impey, one of the Power players linked to a trade play to a Victorian-based AFL club.

“I’m not aware he wants out,’ Hinkley said of Impey on radio FIVEaa last night.

“And he is not a player I want to see leave.”

Impey, 22, is mentioned in the trade speculation as following Power free-agent utility Jackson Trengove to Victoria. Trengove is expected to take up his free agency options with a four-year deal with the Western Bulldogs when the free-agent market opens today.

Impey has carried personal strains in the past year with the death of his father and his court case for the car crash at Norwood in the summer.

Hinkley did leave the door ajar to consider trading Impey for personal reasons.

“But the club would have to come first (in any trade),” Hinkley said. “He’s played 70-odd games, we took him at the end of the first round (in the 2013 AFL national draft at No. 21) and he is a high-quality player. If he does want to leave, the club would need to be compensated adequately.”

Port Adelaide will open the free-agency market today by claiming Brisbane midfielder Tom Rockliff. The Power is still to meet with Geelong free-agent midfielder-forward Steven Motlop, who has as many as six suitors.
